Archery and Crossbows

At ASAD we offer Archery and Crossbows on alternative weeks as we use the same space for both.

Archery

Archery is defined as the art or practice of propelling arrows with the use of a bow, from Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat, while in modern times its main use is that of a recreational activity. A person who participates in archery is typically known as an "archer".

At ASAD we now use Archery GB's "Arrows Archery" equipment. This consist of fiberglass bows and arrows with large suckers that stick to flat targets. This may sound basic but is still a real challenge and allows ASAD to provide archery in a reasonable small space without any danger to others. Arm guards are provided and finger tabs are available.

Archery takes place indoors at The Arena every other Sunday, alternating with Crossbows.

The archery is run by an experienced GNAS/ArcheryGB Leader and supervised by qualified GNAS/ArcheryGB coaches.

Crossbows

Crossbows are a type of bow mounted on a tiller that usually these days includes a firearm like trigger mechanism. Historically, crossbows have been used for hunting and combat, while in modern times its main use is that of a recreational activity. A person who shoots a crossbow is typically known as an "arbalist".

At ASAD we use Petron "toy" crossbows or similar. These are light weight, very low power crossbows which are safe to use in our area. They shoot sucker tipped darts but at ASAD we shoot into targets with nets so that the small suckers are not required to stick. This is still a considerable challenge.
